PSI NTT Targets One Seat per Constituency for 2029 Election
The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is targeting a minimum of one seat in every electoral district (dapil) for the 2029 General Election. This target applies to regency/city DPRD, the NTT Provincial DPRD, and the DPR RI (National Parliament).
Christian Widodo, Chairman of the PSI NTT Regional Leadership Council (DPW), stated that this target is the party’s primary focus heading into the 2029 election. He expressed optimism that this goal is achievable through the strengthening of party structures down to the lowest levels.
“If there are eight constituencies for the provincial DPRD, then we must have at least eight seats. For the national DPR RI, which has two constituencies here, we must also have representation for two people,” Christian said during the Joko Widodo Political Safari in Kupang City on Saturday (1/8/2026).
Christian believes that the presence of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo, in Kupang City will have a positive impact on PSI’s development in NTT, including increasing the number of members joining the party. “The hopes are certainly high. With the presence of Mr Joko Widodo, the former 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, in Kupang, his departure will surely be followed by many joining PSI,” he explained.
According to Christian, the restructuring of the PSI NTT organisational hierarchy is being accelerated. The DPD (Regional Leadership Council) structure is 100 per cent complete, while the DPC (Branch Leadership Council) structure is nearly 100 per cent finished. The structure at the sub-district or PRD (Branch Leadership Unit) level is still in the process of being finalised.
Specifically in Kupang City, he noted that the PSI structure has been established down to the sub-district (kelurahan) level. “We have 22 regencies/cities here, and we are separated by islands. Some of our islands are quite far, so the structure has not yet been completed at the branch level,” he explained.
The Chairman of PSI, who is also the Mayor of Kupang, urged all party ranks to work together to complete the formation of the structure at the lowest level. “We must work together to serve the community, and I am confident it will reach 100 per cent completion,” he said.
Christian stated that PSI NTT has three main focuses for the 2029 election: completing the party structure, scouting potential legislative candidates, and strengthening tangible work within the community. “These three steps are key to strengthening PSI and increasing public trust in the party,” he elaborated.
He mentioned that PSI NTT currently possesses political capital in the form of 34 regency/city DPRD seats across NTT, as well as four regional heads either nominated or supported by PSI. “We are very optimistic about the development of PSI in NTT. The party is confident that seats will increase in the future,” he added.
Christian emphasised that structural strengthening should not be solely politics-oriented. In his view, these steps must be accompanied by real work within the community to ensure that support for PSI continues to grow.
