PSI Marks Islamic New Year with Charity to Strengthen Social Awareness

The Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) commemorated the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah by holding a religious gathering and providing assistance to orphans and the underprivileged. The activity, which took place at the DPP PSI office in Jakarta on Tuesday (16/6), served as a momentum to strengthen social awareness.

Wakil Ketua Umum DPP PSI, Isyana Bagoes Oka, stressed that 1 Muharram holds deep meaning for Muslims, particularly as a moment to honour orphans. She noted that the commemoration is often referred to as ‘Lebaran Anak Yatim’.

‘Today, PSI wants to share happiness by giving assistance to orphans and the underprivileged. What we are doing here is not merely a routine, but rather how we at PSI want to continuously share blessings,’ said Isyana, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Population and Family Development/Deputy Head of BKKBN.

Event committee chair Danik Eka Rahmaningtiyas explained that the programme’s main target is children from orphaned, fatherless, or motherless backgrounds. She expressed hope that this activity could become a regular agenda for the DPP PSI in the future.

‘We hope that going forward, this can become a routine for them. We see 1 Muharram as the right moment to bring happiness to those who need more attention,’ said Danik.

In addition to the distribution of aid and care packages, the event featured a religious lecture by Ustaz Takwa. A warm atmosphere was evident during the question-and-answer session, where children enthusiastically shared their dreams and aspirations before the DPP PSI officials.
