PSI Legislator Urges West Java Government to Prioritise Care for 3-Year Confinement Victim
A member of Commission V of the West Java Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) from the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Iwan Koswara, is urging the West Java Provincial Government to give special attention to YTR (29), a resident of Rancaekek, Kabupaten Bandung, who was subjected to confinement and abuse for three years, leaving her in a dire condition. The case, which has drawn public attention, is seen as requiring not only firm legal action against the perpetrators but also concrete government steps to ensure the victim’s recovery process is comprehensive and sustainable. Iwan stated that the years of suffering experienced by YTR have undoubtedly left significant physical and psychological scars. Therefore, the victim must receive adequate health services, psychological support, and social assistance from the regional government. ‘The victim must be the main priority. The regional government must ensure the victim’s recovery is carried out optimally. The state must be present to provide protection and assistance to the victim and her family,’ Iwan said on Monday (22/6/2026). He believes that handling the victim requires the integrated involvement of various regional agencies. The Health Office, Social Office, Office of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, and other relevant institutions must collaborate to meet all of the victim’s needs. He assessed that the trauma resulting from the alleged confinement and prolonged violence cannot be resolved in a short time. Therefore, psychosocial rehabilitation programmes and long-term assistance must be part of the government’s recovery efforts. Iwan also urged that the victim’s psychological and physical recovery needs receive attention. He said the government must ensure that YTR retains the opportunity to continue her life with dignity after enduring such a severe ordeal. Commission V of the West Java DPRD, he added, will continue to monitor the progress of the victim’s handling and encourage the regional government to provide the necessary support. He expressed hope that this case would become a momentum to strengthen the protection system for children and vulnerable groups in West Java. ‘This incident serves as a reminder to all parties that the protection of women and vulnerable groups must be a priority. We hope the victim receives justice as well as proper recovery so she can rebuild her future,’ Iwan stated.
