PSI Explains Why Jokowi Chose to Visit These Three Provinces
The Solidarity Party (PSI) has explained why former President Joko Widodo chose Lampung, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and West Java for his current tour. Jokowi is scheduled to visit these three provinces and meet PSI cadres and volunteers in the regions.
PSI Central Leadership Council Chairman Bestari Barus stated that the locations were chosen based on which regional officials invited Jokowi most quickly. ‘It depends on who extended the invitation fastest,’ Barus said in a statement on Monday, 1 June 2026.
Additionally, Barus noted Jokowi has historical ties with all three provinces, pointing out that various infrastructure projects in Lampung, NTT, and West Java were built during his presidency.
He recalled Jokowi stopping at a damaged road in Lampung during a presidential trip in July 2024. ‘Lampung has seen significant involvement from President Jokowi. Remember when he stopped at that potholed road and it was later repaired?’ Barus said.
Meanwhile, he mentioned that NTT residents frequently saw Jokowi during his decade-long presidency. ‘NTT’s populace has witnessed and benefited from President Jokowi’s visits over 20 times during his term,’ he added.
Barus stated Jokowi’s political tour will commence this June, lasting several days in each province. ‘We hope President Jokowi remains healthy with PSI. Another hope is that he clarifies his current political alignment with PSI,’ he said.
Jokowi previously stated he is ready to travel across Indonesia once his health improves, adding that the itinerary is not a pre-planned trip but a response to invitations from local communities.
‘Well, I have many invitations from various regions to attend, from the communities,’ Jokowi said during a meeting in Solo, Central Java, on Monday, 25 May 2026, after returning from Jakarta.
The 7th President of Indonesia did not deny meeting PSI cadres and supporters in various regions during his visits, describing it as a silaturahmi. ‘It’s also to provide motivation and meet PSI members in the regions, as well as volunteers. Yes, because of the invitations,’ he said.
Jokowi declined to directly address questions linking his tour to PSI and his son Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s political position ahead of the 2029 elections, reiterating his visits are solely to fulfill local invitations. ‘Well, because there are invitations from the regions,’ he stated briefly.
Previously, PSI Acting Chairman Ahmad Ali stated that PSI cadres in the regions are prepared to welcome Jokowi if the tour proceeds. He added that Jokowi’s visits would be met by party cadres across various areas.
‘If he comes, Insha’Allah, every region he visits will be welcomed by PSI cadres there,’ Ahmad Ali said after meeting Jokowi at his Sumber residence in Banjarsari, Solo, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
