PSI Executive: Jokowi's Jacket Ceremony Could Sway PDIP Voters

The Chairman of the PSI Central Executive Board (DPP), Bestari Barus, stated that the plan to bestow a PSI jacket on Indonesia’s 7th President, Jokowi, marks a definitive sign that he is no longer with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). The Director of Indonesian Political Parameters (PPI), Adi Prayitno, assessed that Jokowi is already considered the ‘grand imam’ of PSI.

“The matter of Jokowi officially wearing the PSI jacket as chairman of the advisory board is merely a formality confirming Jokowi is PSI. Because all this time, Jokowi has already been the grand imam of PSI without needing to wear the PSI jacket. Moreover, he has repeatedly pledged to work wholeheartedly for PSI,” Adi Prayitno told journalists on Sunday (14/6/2026).

Adi assessed that the ceremonial bestowal of the PSI jacket on Jokowi could attract the votes of Jokowi supporters who were still with PDIP at that time. “The affirmation of Jokowi wearing the PSI jacket seems intended as an effort to attract PDIP voters who chose PDIP because of Jokowi,” he said.

“The problem is, PDIP voters in 2024 were ideological voters and militant PDIP voters, not because of Jokowi. Because since the split during the 2024 presidential election, Jokowi’s followers are no longer with PDIP. Even without Jokowi, the fact is PDIP still won the legislative election,” he added.

It is known that Jokowi is scheduled to conduct a political safari to several regions for PSI. The initially planned regions are Lampung, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and West Java (Jabar). “Priority regions are especially those that have been Jokowi’s voter base in presidential elections, such as in eastern Indonesia. Then, regions with the largest number of voters, like on Java Island,” he said.

Previously, PSI DPP Chairman Bestari Barus stated that his party would soon bestow the PSI jacket on Jokowi as a formal sign of his becoming Chairman of the Advisory Board. Bestari said the jacket ceremony also marks Jokowi no longer being with PDIP. Bestari stated the jacket bestowal would be carried out by PSI General Chairman Kaesang Pangarep. However, Bestari has not yet confirmed the exact timing of the jacket ceremony.

“Yes, it could be like that (before the tour), it could be fluid. The most important thing is that it becomes a public understanding that Mr Jokowi is not just words,” Bestari told journalists on Saturday (13/6/2026). “But later, after the jacket is bestowed and officially announced by the General Chairman, it will become the widest possible public understanding that Mr Jokowi is already with PSI and no longer with PDI,” he continued.
