PSI Denies Rumours of Dedi Mulyadi Joining as Cadre, Claims No Communication
The Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has denied rumours suggesting that West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi is about to join the party and leave Gerindra.
PSI DPP Chair for Political Affairs, Bestari Barus, stressed that to date his party has had no communication with Dedi. Bestari also questioned the origin of the rumour.
“As Chair for Political Affairs, it would be impossible for me not to know if such things were happening. But I don’t know about this,” Bestari said when contacted on Monday (24/8).
“There is nothing of the sort. No one has even written who the source of the rumour is. So someone is just throwing a loose ball, perhaps? There is nothing on our side,” he added.
Bestari stressed that his party also has no plans to recruit Dedi for the 2029 General Election. According to him, PSI is currently focused on the party’s factual verification at the KPU.
“No, our concentration today is limited to passing the KPU factual verification,” he said.
Bestari also affirmed that PSI is committed to supporting Prabowo-Gibran in the 2029 presidential election. This stance is in line with the direction of Jokowi as Chair of the Party’s Board of Trustees.
“For the presidential election, we have already been instructed by Mr Jokowi: Prabowo-Gibran for two terms. Ah, okay. So we will stay with that until today, not thinking about plan A or plan B anymore, just that for now,” he said.
Gerindra West Java (Jabar) had previously also spoken out about the rumour that Dedi Mulyadi would leave his party to join PSI.
Gerindra Jabar Deputy Chair Buky Wibawa Karya Guna said he did not know what reasoning lay behind the rumour. He also said that Dedi Mulyadi, also known as Demul or KDM, had issued a firm statement that he would continue to support Prabowo in leading Indonesia.
“I do not know what data and variables are behind the speculation that Dedi Mulyadi (Demul) wants to move to PSI. However, there has been a firm rebuttal statement in which Demul denied the matter. In his statement, he wants Prabowo to lead Indonesia,” Buky said when contacted on Monday (23/8).
