PSI Confirms Jokowi's Regional Tour to Meet Public and Cadres
PSI’s Political Affairs Head Bestari Barus said Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), will tour several regions to meet public invitations and PSI cadres. Bestari stated that Jokowi has long maintained the practice of impromptu visits, even during his presidency. He explained the earliest planned visit is to Lampung, though the exact date remains undisclosed. ‘To fulfil the public’s desire to reconnect after previous visits and create lasting memories, they have invited President Jokowi to meet face-to-face again,’ Bestari said. ‘The meetings will involve various groups, including local figures, traditional leaders, and volunteers in the area,’ he added during a phone interview on Thursday (28 May). Bestari noted PSI’s local branches would also be part of the itinerary. ‘Given the numerous regencies and cities in each province, should President Jokowi have the opportunity, he may visit specific districts or provinces where he will meet PSI’s local structures,’ he said. Bestari dismissed concerns that the regional tours aim to assist PSI in the 2029 general election. ‘This is not about helping, but being part of it. He has already stated he is part of PSI,’ he added. Jokowi previously confirmed his health has improved and he is ready to meet the public again, stating his body has fully recovered. He said future engagements would focus on interacting with and motivating citizens.
