PSI Cadre Leads Kupang to Recognition as Progressive City in Eastern Indonesia

Kupang – Mayor of Kupang, Christian Widodo, emphasised the importance of collaborative work in developing the region.

He stated this after receiving a prestigious award at the National Governance Award 2026. He was named the recipient in the Strategic Leadership in Eastern Urban Transformation category.

The award was given because Christian was deemed successful in leading urban transformation in the eastern Indonesia region. According to him, this award serves as recognition of the development transformation efforts in eastern Indonesia, while also strengthening Kupang City’s position as a city with increasingly progressive governance.

“This is not about who stands in front, but about who faithfully works together in silence, for the good of all,” he said on Sunday, 26 April 2026.

Christian also expressed gratitude for the achievement. He stressed that the award is not the result of individual work, but the fruit of collaboration from all elements of Kupang City’s society.

“This is not my greatness but because of God’s will as well as the support and prayers from all Kupang City residents. Therefore, I extend my abundant thanks to all Kupang City residents,” he said.

He explained that the award has objective evaluation weight. The indicators used include the poverty rate, open unemployment rate (TPT), and Human Development Index (IPM).

From all regions in Indonesia, only one province, one city, and two regencies were selected to receive the award.

“We won the top category from all categories, namely Strategic Leadership. This is extraordinary appreciation for our performance because the indicators used are also objective, namely poverty rate, IPM (Human Development Index), and TPT (open unemployment rate),” said Christian Widodo.

Furthermore, the Chairman of the NTT PSI Provincial Board mentioned that this moment feels even more special because it coincides with the anniversary of Kupang City.

“This becomes the most beautiful gift for Kupang City’s Anniversary today because from all over Indonesia, only one province, one city, and two regencies were chosen to receive this award,” he said.
