The Badung Regency Government continues to optimise its existing waste processing facilities, namely the trial of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) technology and an incinerator. This step is being taken to address the waste emergency while waiting for the Waste-to-Energy Plant (PSEL) facility, which is projected to begin operations only in 2027.

“The PSEL is still in process. On the other hand, in the meantime we must also prepare technology; after waste is sorted, where is it taken, because there is a policy that waste may not be taken to the Suwung landfill,” said Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa at the Badung Regency Government Centre on Thursday (20/8/2026).

Adi Arnawa stressed that waste management cannot be postponed until the PSEL facility officially becomes fully operational in a few years. Therefore, the Badung Regency Government has taken a breakthrough by maximising the RDF technology trial.

“This PSEL will only be ready by the end of 2027, or it can only be running in 2028. Should we wait until 2028? Frankly, we have already seen the trial of the machine that produces RDF, and it turns out that with a capacity of 100 tonnes per day it is already running, even exceeding that,” he said.

Seeing the trial results that exceeded the initial target, the Badung Regency Government is now preparing to add new processing machine units. The additional RDF machine units are targeted to be able to process hundreds of tonnes of waste per day.

In addition to boosting the use of RDF, the Badung Regency Government is also ensuring that the incinerator machine purchased previously continues to be operated in parallel. The integration of various waste processing technologies is claimed to be an effective solution in handling waste generation comprehensively.

“We cannot say which one is right or bad, but what matters is how the waste is handled,” he concluded.
