Prudential Indonesia's Bincang Mapan 2026: Business Strategies
Jakarta, 20 April 2026 – Ahead of Kartini Day commemorations, the spirit of Indonesian women in building economic independence is increasingly evident, including through their contributions as business actors. Data shows that around 64.5% of SME actors in Indonesia are women[1], making them one of the main drivers of the national economy amid the dominance of SMEs, which account for nearly 99% of total business units in Indonesia[2].
With that spirit, PT Prudential Life Assurance (Prudential Indonesia) held Bincang Mapan 2026 on 20 April 2026 at PRU University, Kota Kasablanka, Jakarta, as an effort to encourage Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) not only to develop their businesses but also to ensure their sustainability through thorough planning and appropriate financial protection.
The event was attended by around 360 MSME actors, dominated by more than 80% female participation, both in person and online. Participants not only gained insights into business development strategies but also the importance of preparedness in facing various risks, from expansion strategies and cash flow management to efforts to maintain business stability amid constantly changing market dynamics.
One participant, Ariyanti, an MSME actor in the culinary sector, shared her experience in starting a business from scratch. She faced challenges in adapting after switching from a fashion business to culinary in 2015, particularly because she had to enter a field she previously did not master. This experience reflects that building a business requires not only the courage to start but also readiness to face risks and uncertainties. This experience reflects that women’s role in building businesses is also accompanied by real challenges, thus requiring readiness not only in starting but also in maintaining business sustainability.
In line with that, Prudential Indonesia’s Chief Product Officer, Astono Hermawan, stated that business success is not only determined by operations such as production, distribution, and marketing, but also by the strength of financial foundations as the key to business sustainability. According to him, the most important asset in business is self-confidence, because to keep the business growing requires thorough and comprehensive planning, especially for female business actors who often have dual roles in managing business and personal life.
Furthermore, Astono said that the first three to five years phase is the most crucial period for business actors. At this time, many businesses face heavy challenges leading to failure due to weak planning, particularly in financial aspects.
This perspective was reinforced by the founder of Maicih snacks, Reza Nurhilman, who attended as a speaker. He highlighted that the main strategy in building a business from zero lies in the ability to create value and product differentiation, as done by Maicih through the concept of level-spicy food that became a pioneer in the market. In addition to innovating products, business actors can also take advantage of opportunities such as becoming resellers to build experience and understand market needs.
Along with business growth, Reza emphasised that MSMEs need to understand that expansion and maintaining business stability often become dilemmas. Expansion can indeed drive revenue increases and strengthen the brand, but it also risks cash flow health. Therefore, business actors need to consider capital readiness and solidify systems before pursuing more aggressive expansion.
Furthermore, he added that risk management becomes an important aspect in maintaining business sustainability, from financial risks, operational to internal company risks. By maintaining cash flow, building a competent team, and ensuring good business governance, business actors can keep business growth healthy and sustainable. This shows that maintaining a balance between growth and stability is the key to sustainable business development.
Through this Bincang Mapan forum, Prudential Indonesia also provides a space for discussion for MSME actors to share experiences and strengthen strategies in facing increasingly dynamic business challenges. This forum serves as a reminder that building a business requires not only courage and innovation but also readiness in managing risks sustainably, including in terms of financial protection.
One instrument that can be utilised by the public is the PRUMapan Life Insurance product from Prudential Indonesia. This product provides life protection against various risks, both natural death and due to accidents according to policy terms. This protection is important considering that business actors are the main assets in the business, so maintaining business continuity also means protecting the individuals running it. In addition to protection, there is also a financial benefit in the form of Mapan Funds that can be received at ages 55 to 75 years, or after 20 years entering Mapan Age, which can not only be used as additional capital to support business development but also as a layer of financial resilience when business actors enter the next phase of life, including when starting to reduce business activities or entering less productive periods.
In that context, solutions like PRUMapan Life Insurance become relevant for the younger generation and business actors because they not only offer protection but also support more structured financial planning. In line with Kartini’s spirit in building independence, with protection for business actors as the main assets and support for Mapan Funds in the future, the dream of building a business and life
