PRT Jumping Case in Central Jakarta: Employer and Recruiters Named as Suspects

Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, revealed that the three suspects are initialled AV, T alias U, and WA alias Y. Budi stated that they have been detained at the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort headquarters. “Investigators have acted professionally and swiftly. Suspects T and WA have been detained since 29 April 2026, while suspect AV followed today, 5 May 2026. The detention is for the further interests of the investigation,” said Commissioner Budi Hermanto in his statement on Wednesday (6/5/2026). Suspect AV is the employer alleged to have employed the victim R from November 2025 to April 2026. Meanwhile, suspects T and WA were involved in the recruitment process of the victim as a domestic worker (PRT). Investigators have secured various important pieces of evidence, including the victim’s documents, electronic devices, DVR CCTV recordings, as well as visum and autopsy results. Police are also coordinating with P3A (Integrated Service Centre for Women’s and Children’s Empowerment) and LPSK to provide assistance and protection for the victim’s witnesses. “We ensure that the handling of this case is carried out transparently and thoroughly. The suspects are charged under Article 446 of the Criminal Code, Article 455 of the Criminal Code, and Article 76I in conjunction with Article 88 of the Child Protection Law,” he explained. Police advise the public to be more vigilant and selective in recruiting workers, especially ensuring no involvement of minors, which constitutes a legal violation. Police request residents to report to the nearest police station or via the 110 call centre if they encounter practices leading to human exploitation or trafficking in persons (TPPO). The incident of the two PRT jumping occurred on Wednesday (22/4) night. In the case, PRT initialled R died in the incident, while the other, D, was injured. The Employer is a Lawyer Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation at Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, confirmed that the employer, suspect AV, is lawyer Adriel Viari Purba. “Yes (the employer is lawyer Adriel Viari Purba),” said Roby Heri when contacted separately.
