PRR Task Force Urges Stakeholders to Prioritise Post-Disaster Recovery
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, in his capacity as the Chair of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (Satgas PRR) for Sumatra, has requested all stakeholders in Tapanuli Tengah Regency, North Sumatra, to unite in prioritising the acceleration of post-disaster recovery.
“This is a humanitarian issue. We would be at fault if the people are not helped, while we possess the capability to assist them,” Tito stated in a briefing in Jakarta on Friday.
Tito made these remarks following an inspection of the progress of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Tapanuli Tengah.
He noted that Tapanuli Tengah is the area most severely impacted by the disaster in North Sumatra, and therefore requires support from many parties.
Tito urged the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), including regional heads, the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), and community leaders, to set aside political interests and administrative issues that could hinder disaster management.
He emphasised that all parties must unite to accelerate recovery, including by utilising additional government budgets for disaster management.
The Minister of Home Affairs explained that the central government provided additional funding of approximately Rp213 billion in April 2026 and Rp14 billion in August 2026 to Tapanuli Tengah Regency.
“I will certainly monitor how that money is used. The priority must be for the disaster. I have issued a circular letter to provide guidance,” he said.
During the inspection, Tito checked various progress reports on rehabilitation and reconstruction (rehab-rekon) in Tapanuli Tengah Regency, ranging from the construction of Sabo Dams and permanent housing (huntap) to the restoration of educational facilities.
His presence was intended to ensure that various programmes are running according to plan, including those organised by ministries and agencies.
Tito explained that the President has approved a three-year post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction budget for Sumatra amounting to Rp100.1 trillion. This budget has currently been distributed to the relevant ministries and agencies.
As the Chair of the PRR Task Force, Tito ensured oversight of various rehab-rekon programmes by both the central and regional governments.
“Now is the time to go into the field to conduct checks,” he concluded.
