PRR Task Force to Oversee Rp 100.1 Trillion Post-Disaster Rehabilitation Plan for Sumatra

The Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) will oversee the implementation of programmes outlined in the master plan for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sumatra. Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, who chairs the task force, confirmed that the government has budgeted Rp 100.1 trillion to handle the post-disaster recovery in Sumatra, with a target completion date of 2028. The budget is allocated for 32 ministries and agencies tasked with managing the rehabilitation and reconstruction. To date, the Ministry of Finance has approved budget proposals from seven ministries and agencies. This was revealed following a coordination meeting on the data collection of permanent housing held in a hybrid format from the Ministry of Home Affairs headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/7/2026). “Therefore, these seven ministries/agencies must move immediately. Move, and then submit the details of what will be done in 2026,” Tito stated in a written release on Wednesday (22/7/2026). He stressed that the PRR Task Force will conduct weekly checks on the progress of the master plan. This step is crucial to ensure the programme runs according to plan and to address any issues encountered. On the same occasion, Minister of Housing and Residential Areas Maruarar Sirait explained that the tender process for permanent housing has commenced. The construction of communal permanent housing, which is the responsibility of his ministry, is scheduled to begin in September 2026. However, he urged regional governments that have not yet prepared the land for the housing to do so immediately, noting that some locations have not completed the land acquisition process. “Do not let the tender be finished but the land is not ready. That is not our authority. Please help, Minister (Tito), so that the land issue can be resolved immediately,” he said. According to data, the Ministry of Housing has a budget of Rp 2.2 trillion to build 7,952 permanent housing units across three affected provinces in Sumatra. The allocation varies by province, with Aceh receiving 6,220 units, North Sumatra 919 units, and West Sumatra 813 units. Meanwhile, PT PLN Distribution Director Arsyadany G. Akmalaputri expressed full support for the communal housing development plan. He stated that PLN will immediately prepare the electricity network at the housing locations. “Once the building installations are ready, PLN will be installed immediately. This is in collaboration with regional governments, BNPB, and other ministries/agencies,” he said. Separately, Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works Apri Artoto explained that his ministry received an additional budget of Rp 21.16 trillion to handle the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sumatra. “The budget will be used to repair and build infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and irrigation,” he concluded.
