A total of 11,520 permanent post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction activities will be carried out by the Task Force for the Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The activities, which will run until 2028, require indicative funding of up to Rp100.166 trillion. These activities are the implementation of the Master Plan for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Sumatra (Renduk PRRP) 2026-2028, which was drawn up as a roadmap for permanent recovery in 53 affected districts and cities. The permanent rehabilitation and reconstruction phase is directed at rebuilding affected areas to be safer, more resilient, and sustainable through the principle of Build Back Better, Safer, and Sustainable. Behind the thousands of activities, the government has established five major focuses that will guide the implementation of rehabilitation and reconstruction over the next three years. The five focuses include residential recovery, infrastructure development, social rehabilitation, community economic recovery, and strengthening cross-sector governance. Chairman of the Sumatra Post-Disaster PRR Task Force, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, said the success of rehabilitation and reconstruction requires the support of all parties, including the community. ‘We hope for support from all parties, including the community and local leaders in the three regions, so we can work together in mutual cooperation,’ Tito said in a written statement on Monday (29/6/2026). He made the statement following a ministerial-level meeting of the Sumatra Post-Disaster PRR Steering Committee in Jakarta (18/6), while emphasising that the acceleration of permanent infrastructure development must be maintained so that the benefits of recovery can be felt immediately by the community. The first focus is the provision of permanent housing through 97 activities with funding needs of approximately Rp7.57 trillion. This programme not only builds houses for affected communities but also ensures that residential locations are in safer areas through rebuilding on original sites or relocation from high-risk zones. The largest portion is directed at infrastructure development through 1,863 activities with a budget requirement of around Rp63.69 trillion. The programme includes the rehabilitation of roads, bridges, irrigation networks, rivers, drinking water, sanitation, energy, and various public service facilities that form the backbone of community activity. The government also places social recovery as an important priority through 6,194 activities with funding needs of approximately Rp18.73 trillion. The focus includes education and health services, protection for vulnerable groups, psychosocial support, and strengthening social cohesion to ensure the recovery process is more inclusive. In the economic sector, 3,026 activities with a budget requirement of around Rp9.41 trillion have been prepared to revive livelihoods through the rehabilitation of agriculture, fisheries, trade, cooperatives, MSMEs, small and medium industries, public markets, and the tourism sector. Meanwhile, 341 cross-sector activities with indicative funding of around Rp764.67 billion are directed at strengthening risk-based spatial planning, early warning systems, land services, strengthening by-name by-address data, and monitoring and evaluation systems.
