PRR Task Force Prepares 403 Infrastructure Packages in Sumatra

The Sumatran Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas PRR), through the Ministry of Public Works, is preparing 403 infrastructure work packages in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra throughout 2026. The works are directed at restoring basic services, strengthening connectivity, and delivering safer, more resilient infrastructure for disaster-affected communities. Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works Apri Artoto stated that the implementation of these hundreds of packages is supported by a Supplementary Budget of Rp 21.16 trillion. This additional budget strengthens the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction programme so that recovery does not stop at temporary handling but continues towards quality and sustainable development. The budget is allocated to four work units. The Directorate General of Water Resources received Rp 7.52 trillion, the Directorate General of Highways Rp 6.73 trillion, the Directorate General of Human Settlements Rp 4.02 trillion, and the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure Rp 2.89 trillion. In the water resources sector, works include rehabilitating irrigation networks, flood control, river normalisation, constructing check dams, and providing raw water supply. Meanwhile, the highways sector is focused on the construction and rehabilitation of roads and bridges to restore public access while supporting logistics movement and economic activities. In the settlements sector, the Ministry of Public Works will rehabilitate drinking water supply systems, construct boreholes, repair final processing sites, and handle faecal sludge treatment plants. The construction of housing and the rehabilitation of health facilities, places of worship, Islamic boarding schools, and madrasas are part of the strategic infrastructure handling. This was revealed by him during the Coordination Meeting on the Discussion of Permanent Housing Development at the National Command Post of the PRR Task Force, Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/7/2026). “At this time, it can be conveyed that the recovery process continues, although there are still works that need to be completed thoroughly. The next challenge is to ensure all programmes can be completed while improving quality to be more resilient and sustainable,” said Apri in a written statement on Thursday (23/7/2026). As of 21 July 2026, the financial realisation of the rehabilitation and reconstruction programme within the Ministry of Public Works reached Rp 2.40 trillion, or 11.35 per cent of the total budget. Meanwhile, physical realisation has reached 26.4 per cent of the total 403 packages implemented in the 2026 fiscal year. According to him, this physical progress shows that field works are continuously moving, although budget absorption still needs to be accelerated in a measured manner. “The current achievements not only reflect implementation progress but also serve as a tangible indicator of the state’s presence in post-disaster recovery,” he said. Meanwhile, PRR Task Force Chair Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that in addition to works carried out by the Ministry of Public Works, some disaster-affected infrastructure recovery is also being undertaken by affected local governments through additional Regional Transfers (TKD) totalling Rp 10.6 trillion, which has now been fully disbursed in three stages. Tito emphasised that he will continue to strengthen coordination across ministries, local governments, and technical implementers so that administrative obstacles, land readiness, design, procurement, and field implementation can be resolved promptly. “The acceleration is directed so that roads, bridges, irrigation networks, drinking water, housing, and public facilities can be utilised by the community more quickly without neglecting quality and governance,” concluded Tito.
