PRR Task Force: Life for Aceh Residents Post-Disaster Returning to Normal
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Chairman of the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (PRR), M. Tito Karnavian, stated that the lives of the people in Aceh are moving towards normalcy following the floods and landslides in late November 2025.
“In essence, we have returned to normal, but it is not yet permanent; it is a functional normalcy,” said M. Tito Karnavian in Banda Aceh on Tuesday.
Tito Karnavian made the statement after attending a coordination and evaluation meeting regarding the progress of handling and accelerating post-disaster recovery from Aceh’s hydrometeorological disasters at the Aceh Governor’s office in Banda Aceh.
Tito noted that the evaluation meeting was intended to assess the progress of handling from the emergency response period through to the post-disaster transition phase in Aceh.
The results indicated that many issues in Aceh require urgent attention or are not yet fully ideal, such as schools that are still operating in tents or sharing facilities with other schools, even though most students have returned to their original schools.
Furthermore, issues regarding roads, bridges, rivers, irrigation, drinking water, fish ponds, places of worship, madrasahs, permanent housing, and other infrastructure need immediate repair.
“If we look at several available data indicators, the impact was indeed quite massive in Aceh Province. Without downplaying North Sumatra and West Sumatra, I will also be visiting those areas later,” he said.
“We have been able to restore the normal functions of community life, but many problems remain unresolved,” he emphasised.
He stressed that much needs to be improved in Aceh during the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction period for Sumatra over the next three years, spanning from mid-2026 to 2028.
The budget for rehabilitation and reconstruction, which has been approved by President Prabowo and the House of Representatives (DPR RI), reaches Rp100 trillion over three years: approximately Rp39 trillion in 2026, Rp32 trillion in 2027, and over Rp28 trillion in 2028.
“Once the funds are disbursed by the ministries/agencies from the Ministry of Finance, we will automatically work swiftly to execute the 11,512 programmes and activities across the three provinces. We will continue to monitor this every two weeks,” concluded Tito Karnavian.
