The Head of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force for Sumatra, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, accompanied President Prabowo Subianto during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah celebrations in Aceh Tamiang, Aceh. Prior to this, Prabowo had observed the night of takbiran with communities in North Sumatra.

The President arrived in Aceh Tamiang on Saturday morning (21/3), greeted by Tito along with Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf at the 111/Karma Bhakti Special Raider Infantry Battalion. The visit aimed, among other things, to ensure that disaster-affected communities could celebrate Lebaran in better conditions.

This presence fulfils the President’s attention to the people of Aceh, previously manifested through the distribution of aid worth Rp72.75 billion related to the Meugang tradition. The aid was used to procure cattle distributed to 19 districts/cities, including disaster-affected areas.

Through this scheme, 3,042 villages in Aceh received aid allocations, with each village getting around Rp50 million to purchase cattle. In addition to preserving the Meugang tradition, this step also eases the burden on communities in meeting food needs ahead of Lebaran, while stimulating the local economy.

“The main point is that 3,042 villages and their residents must receive a share of beef,” Tito stated recently.

Not only humanitarian in nature, all these stimuli are designed as drivers of regional economic recovery. According to Tito, aid distributed directly to communities will boost purchasing power and stimulate local economic activities, especially in areas that have faced pressure due to disasters.

“If people have purchasing power, they will shop. From there, the economy moves, markets revive, and economic growth can recover,” he said.

Through a combination of social aid, support for local traditions like Meugang, and acceleration of housing construction, the government hopes that disaster-affected communities can celebrate Eid al-Fitr with more optimistic conditions, both socially and economically.

The President’s presence with central government officials in Aceh Tamiang is expected to boost community morale and encourage all recovery programmes to run on target and on time.
