The government, through the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster, continues to expedite rehabilitation and reconstruction in affected areas. One such effort was carried out by the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) and Head of the PRR Task Force (Kasatgas) Muhammad Tito Karnavian, along with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, by handing over permanent housing (huntap). A total of 120 units of first-phase huntap have been handed over to disaster survivor communities in Hapesong Baru Village, Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli Regency (Tapsel), North Sumatra (Sumut), on Friday (27/3/2026). The handover of the huntap represents an acceleration step already undertaken during the transition period, from the emergency response phase to the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase, which will begin on 1 April 2026. The Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation plans to build 2,603 huntap units spread across three affected provinces, namely Aceh, Sumut, and West Sumatra (Sumbar). “Well, this is the fastest collaborative effort. I say this is the quickest,” said Tito in a press release received by Kompas.com on Saturday (28/3/2026). Furthermore, he explained that the construction of huntap follows two schemes: in situ and communal. In addition to building independently, communities can also hand over the huntap construction process to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). Meanwhile, for the communal scheme, huntap construction is carried out in one area with land provided by local governments (pemda). The huntap construction process is handled by the Ministry of PKP or through collaborative efforts with ministries or other institutions, including non-governmental parties. The speed of data collection and reporting is deemed important so that aid distribution can be carried out promptly, including in providing huntap. Thanks to the completeness of the collected data, affected communities have also received various aids, such as Living Guarantee (Jadup), Housing Wait Fund (DTH), Housing Filling Aid (BIH), and Socio-Economic Stimulus Aid (BSSE).
