PRR Task Force Completes Construction of 357 Permanent Homes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Disaster in Sumatra has completed the construction of 357 permanent housing units (huntap) for survivors of hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
Quoted from the PRR Task Force’s statement on Tuesday, this figure is based on Task Force data as of 11 May 2026. The number has increased from 248 units recorded on 8 May 2026, meaning that in the last three days, there has been an addition of 109 completed huntap units or an increase of around 43.9 per cent.
The PRR Task Force stated that the construction of huntap is being carried out in stages while maintaining building quality to ensure safety and habitability in the long term.
Overall, the need for huntap in the three provinces totals 39,335 units, with 996 units still under construction. Aceh has the largest requirement, at 28,910 units, followed by North Sumatra with 7,601 units and West Sumatra with 2,824 units.
In Aceh, 108 huntap units have been completed, and 719 units are still in progress. Meanwhile, in North Sumatra, construction progress shows quite significant development with 227 units completed and 225 units still under construction. In West Sumatra, 22 huntap units have been completed, and 52 units are still in progress.
The construction of these huntap units involves various parties, from the Ministry of Housing and Human Settlements, the National Disaster Management Agency, local governments, to humanitarian organisations such as Buddha Tzu Chi Indonesia and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Spokesperson for the PRR Task Force, Amran, said that the construction of huntap indeed requires a longer process compared to temporary housing (huntara) because the government wants to ensure that building quality is maintained.
“Huntap has stages that are somewhat lengthy to guarantee the quality of the housing because as permanent housing, we cannot force it to be completed quickly like huntara,” said Amran in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5).
According to him, the survivors have been ensured to have adequate temporary accommodation through the construction of temporary housing (huntara) while waiting for the huntap construction process to be completed in stages according to the data of recipients determined by local governments.
“Huntap is being pushed to be completed as soon as possible. Of course, in the stages, quality is still maintained. There are stages to ensure quality and the process,” he added.
