PRR Task Force Accelerates Revitalisation of Disaster-Affected Schools in Sumatra
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster is accelerating the revitalisation of educational facilities affected by hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, to ensure that teaching and learning processes continue safely and comfortably.
PRR Task Force Spokesperson Amran stated that the education sector is one of the main priorities in post-disaster recovery because it directly relates to the continuity of student learning in affected areas.
“The number of affected educational facilities is quite significant. Therefore, the construction and rehabilitation processes are being continuously pushed to ensure swift completion,” Amran said in his statement in Jakarta on Saturday.
He explained that the rehabilitation process is carried out in stages, adjusted to the damage conditions on the ground, particularly for schools in the heavily damaged category that require rebuilding or temporary relocation.
“If heavily damaged, it certainly requires new construction, so they cannot be immediately occupied. Therefore, some schools are temporarily relocated to ensure learning continues,” he said.
According to Amran, the acceleration of revitalisation is also carried out through cross-sectoral collaboration, including cooperation with the Indonesian Army in the construction and rehabilitation of affected schools.
A total of 2,606 schools are being revitalised through self-management mechanisms, while 267 schools in the heavily damaged and relocation categories are being handled jointly with the Indonesian Army.
Based on PRR Task Force data as of 8 May 2026, the total number of affected educational facilities in the three provinces reaches 4,922 educational units. Despite the damage, all schools are ensured to continue learning activities with 100% achievement through original schools, emergency classes, educational tents, or temporary learning locations.
To date, 3,002 schools have carried out Revitalisation Cooperation Agreements (PKS) with a total budget of Rp2.86 trillion. Of this number, 2,792 schools have received the first stage disbursement totalling Rp1.9 trillion.
In Aceh, revitalisation is underway for 2,012 schools with a total budget of Rp1.98 trillion. Meanwhile, in North Sumatra, it covers 658 schools with a budget of Rp600.9 billion, and in West Sumatra, 332 schools with funding support of Rp281.7 billion.
The PRR Task Force ensures that the acceleration of educational facility rehabilitation continues so that students in affected areas can return to optimal learning.
