PRR Task Force Accelerates Construction of Permanent Housing in Sumatra Post-Eid, Using 2 Schemes
The Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas PRR) for Sumatra will resume rapid efforts to build permanent housing (huntap) in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra following the Eid al-Fitr 2026 celebrations. This permanent housing is provided for evacuees whose homes were severely damaged, collapsed, or swept away by floodwaters. The Head of Satgas PRR, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, stated that further coordination regarding huntap construction with local governments will be promptly held after Eid. “We have already scheduled, after this Eid, with the Minister of PKP to go down and coordinate with the local governments on which areas are ready to be built, to be built immediately,” Tito said after accompanying President Prabowo Subianto in Aceh Tamiang on Saturday (21/3). The huntap construction is carried out across sectors involving BNPB, the Ministry of PKP, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the National Police. Additionally, there is involvement from private institutions and individuals. The huntap construction will be implemented using two schemes. The first scheme is the in situ method or building huntap in areas near the previous residences with strict land security criteria, with BNPB as one of the responsible parties. The in situ huntap locations handled by BNPB are in Bireuen Regency, with a proposal for 365 huntap units. The other huntap construction scheme is the communal method or centralised relocation by building on a single expanse of land declared suitable to accommodate residents from areas no longer safe to inhabit. The Ministry of PKP is one of the institutions preparing the communal scheme for huntap construction. In total, Satgas PRR records plans for huntap construction in the three affected provinces reaching 36,669 units, with 110 units already completed and another 1,359 units in the construction process. At the same time, Satgas PRR is also preparing temporary housing (huntara) and Housing Waiting Funds (DTH) of Rp1.8 million for evacuees who wish to rent houses.
