PT Polytama Propindo has received the PROPER Gold award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). This accolade is given as recognition of the company’s commitment to sustainable environmental management. The appreciation was presented directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry (BPLH)/Head of the Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq during the PROPER Environmental Awards event at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/4/2026). Hanif explained that this year’s PROPER awards are carried out as a mandate of Law No. 70 of 2024. In sustainable environmental management, Polytama Propindo has implemented the innovation of the Programme for Optimising Extruder Rate (OPERATE) PCR 2. This innovation was able to reduce electricity energy consumption by 6,622.56 gigajoules in 2024. In addition, Polytama Propindo utilises RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel) as an alternative fuel in the coal boiler co-firing system as an effort towards carbon neutrality. This innovation can reduce the emission load discharged into the environment by 68 tonnes of CO2e. Another innovation is the Fines Removal Pelletizing Control Room (PCR) 2 in the Pelletising and Granular unit, which was able to improve water usage efficiency in 2024 by 2,635 cubic metres. For information, the PROPER award is an annual programme to appreciate efforts and innovations in implementing sustainability towards the living environment. This award has several parameters that assess every step and effort to improve environmental quality. The PROPER assessment criteria are divided into two categories: compliance and criteria for assessments beyond what is required in regulations (beyond compliance). Compliance criteria are based on the company’s efforts in fulfilling several matters, including control of water pollution, maintenance of water sources, control of air pollution, management of B3 waste (hazardous and toxic materials), management of non-B3 waste, management of B3, control of land damage, and waste management. Meanwhile, beyond compliance criteria are more dynamic because they are adjusted to technological developments, the application of best environmental management practices, and global environmental issues. Some points in the beyond compliance assessment include the implementation of environmental management systems, energy efficiency efforts, emission reduction efforts, implementation of reduce, reuse, and recycle of B3 waste, water conservation and reduction of wastewater pollution load, protection of biodiversity, and community development programmes.
