Provincial Road Access in Palembayan Paralysed by Landslide

Access to the provincial road in Jorong Sungai Taleh, Nagari Baringin, Palembayan District, Agam Regency, has come to a total standstill after being buried by landslide debris on Saturday (12/9).

The landslide occurred following heavy rainfall that lashed the area on Friday (11/9) afternoon. The accumulation of soil and debris has blocked the roadway, severely hindering the mobility of residents using the route.

The Regent of Agam, Benni Warlis, personally inspected the landslide site to assess the road conditions and ensure that measures are being taken to clear the material obstructing traffic.

Upon arriving at the location, Benni observed the extent of the road buried by the landslide. He also coordinated with relevant authorities to ensure that the cleaning of debris and the reopening of access are carried out immediately.

“The safety of the community and the smoothness of access are our primary concerns. We must act swiftly, especially when disasters disrupt public activities,” stated Benni.

He has urged residents passing through the area to increase their vigilance. There are concerns that continued rainfall could trigger secondary landslides in the vicinity.

The local government continues to monitor the situation in the area and is coordinating with relevant parties to accelerate the restoration of the affected road access.
