The West Kalimantan Provincial Government has confirmed that the infrastructure development of the People’s School in Singkawang City will be completed by August 2026, allowing it to begin operations in early September this year. Governor of West Kalimantan Ria Norsan stated that the physical progress of the construction has reached approximately 80 percent. “We are optimistic that all infrastructure can be completed by the end of August so that the handover process can take place and teaching and learning activities for elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels can commence in early September,” he said in Singkawang on Tuesday. According to Norsan, efforts to accelerate the completion of the construction are ongoing so that this national strategic project in the education sector can be immediately utilised by the community as a means to expand access to quality education. Mayor of Singkawang Tjhai Chui Mie said the City Government is committed to supporting the acceleration of development through synergy with the central government and the West Kalimantan Provincial Government. She noted that the presence of the People’s School is expected to broaden educational access for the community, particularly for children in need of quality and inclusive education services. “The People’s School programme is one of the national strategic projects in the education sector developed through collaboration between the central and regional governments to improve the equity of education services while strengthening the development of superior, character-driven, and competitive human resources,” she said. She also expressed hope that the completion of the construction on target would allow all educational facilities to be ready for use in the new academic year, enabling the People’s School to immediately benefit the communities of Singkawang City and West Kalimantan.
