Province to get aid from Korea

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Governor Gusti Hasan Aman says the province will receive technical assistance and agricultural equipment from the South Korean government, Antara reported on Saturday.

"By the end of April this assistance, which will come in stages, will have been channeled to those who need it, especially assistance in the form of technical training," he said here on Friday.

The aid, worth US$1.1 million, will later be channeled to wetland agricultural areas, as they have a high level of agricultural output.

Separately, the head of the province's Food Crops Agricultural Service, Rais Jauhari, said that in the initial stage, technical assistance would be given in the form of training in South Korea.

"On April 28, technical personnel from Barito Kuala, Banjar and Tanah Laut districts, numbering eight in all, will depart for South Korea, where they will receive training for three years," he said.

As for the agricultural equipment to be extended as aid, he added, this will include tractors and paddy-husking gadgets.
