Protests Proceed Peacefully as Metro Jaya Police Praise Students
Protesters outside the House of Representatives building and at the Monas roundabout in Central Jakarta have dispersed. Metro Jaya Police thanked all parties who helped maintain security and public order during the demonstration.
Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto thanked the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board, students from Jayabaya University, the Indonesian National Women’s Coalition and all members of the public who expressed their views in an orderly manner.
“We also express our appreciation to the Jaya Regional Military Command, the Jakarta provincial government, building security personnel and all police officers who worked together to provide services and safeguard public safety,” Budi said on Tuesday (20 October 2026).
Budi said that, in line with the direction of Metro Jaya Police Chief Commissioner General Dadang Hartanto, the police consistently prioritise humane service, respect the right to express opinions and put the safety of the entire community first.
“With the spirit of ‘Police with the Community’, we will continue to keep public spaces safe and peaceful. The public’s aspirations must be respected, as must the rights of other residents to go about their activities comfortably. This is the spirit of ‘Serving Jakarta’: the police are here to listen, protect and serve,” he said.
Budi also apologised to members of the public whose activities or journeys were disrupted during the demonstration.
