Protesters Rally at BGN Office in Central Jakarta, Demand Audit of Free Nutritious Meals Programme
A group of protesters calling themselves MBG Watch staged a demonstration in front of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) office, stringing up yellow-and-black tape across the premises. During the protest in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (10/6/2026), participants plastered posters criticising the free nutritious meals programme (MBG), bearing messages such as ‘We Seal This Building’, ‘Audit MBG’, and ‘We Are Fed Up! Overhaul MBG Entirely!’ Several demonstrators brought props including pots and other cooking utensils, taking turns to deliver speeches through a loudspeaker. In his oration, a representative of the group argued that the programme’s governance requires thorough evaluation, expressing disappointment with the issues arising during its implementation. ‘We, the MBG Watch Alliance, demand that the government seriously overhaul our MBG governance,’ said one speaker at the protest. The crowd described the yellow tape and posters at the BGN office as symbols of their demand for the government to reform the programme. They also unfurled a poster reading ‘Honk if you are fed up with MBG’, which prompted many passing drivers to sound their vehicle horns.
