Protesters press for ouster of regent

BANYUWANGI, East Java: Members of the Forum to Safeguard
Banyuwangi (FPB) political group threatened on Thursday to
mobilize its members for a major protest, should the local
legislative council refuse to convene a plenary session soon to
oust Regent Samsul Hadi.

"If there is no such plenary session on Friday, we will occupy
the regent's office on Monday," FPB coordinator Thoriq said.

On Wednesday, thousands of FPB supporters marched to the
regent's office to press their demand for the dismissal of
Samsul, who is accused of incompetence. Antara
