Protesters Block Road in Front of the DIY Regional Police Headquarters This Evening

A demonstration occurred at the DIY Regional Police Headquarters on Tuesday (24/2) evening. The protesters blocked access roads and breached the police headquarters’ fence.

As observed by detikJogja, hundreds of protesters began arriving at the DIY Regional Police Headquarters on foot at around 6 p.m. They walked from the east.

Upon arriving in front of the DIY Regional Police Headquarters, the protesters gathered for a moment. Some pushed water barriers in front of the DIY Regional Police Headquarters on the west side and blocked the road.

Meanwhile, the protesters concentrated at the fence on the east side. They hit the fence and breached it until it collapsed. The shouts of the protesters could be heard as the east side fence of the DIY Regional Police Headquarters collapsed.

In addition, the protesters also spray-painted the police headquarters’ fence with spray paint. From outside the fence, the protesters threw objects into the police headquarters’ yard.

Inside the yard, the DIY Regional Police had prepared by installing barbed wire fences since earlier in the day. As of 6:48 p.m., the protesters continued to arrive.

“Murderer, murderer, murderer,” the protesters shouted.

The action was reportedly in response to an assault incident involving a member of the Maluku Police’s Mobile Brigade, Bripda Mesias Siahaya. He was the perpetrator who assaulted a Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) student, AT (14), to death in Tual City. Mesias was then dismissed by the National Police.
