Protesters at Central Java Governor's Office Chant 'Reformasi'
A crowd of demonstrators in front of the Central Java Governor’s office repeatedly chanted ‘Reformasi’. The protest, which involved students from various universities, took place on Monday afternoon, 15 June 2026. The chant was led by an orator from atop a command vehicle and echoed by the masses who filled Jalan Pahlawan in front of the government complex. The rally addressed the economic crisis as a consequence of the government’s performance. ‘We are holding this action without being ridden by any agenda. We are not paid,’ the orator stated via loudspeaker. They criticised several government projects, including the free nutritious meal programme, the Merah Putih cooperatives, and the increase in fuel prices, among others. They demanded the government take responsibility for the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate. Demonstrators briefly burned action props in front of the Central Java Governor’s office gate at 5:30 p.m. local time. Police subsequently extinguished the fire using a water cannon vehicle. The protesters gradually left the location at 6:00 p.m. A section of Jalan Pahlawan was closed during the demonstration.
