Protest Banners Fill Turi Village Office Amid Alleged Corruption by Officials
Protest banners have gone viral on social media, displayed at the entrance of Bangunkerto Village Office in Turi, Sleman. The banners contain demands from residents to investigate alleged corruption within the village administration.
The incident went viral after being posted by Instagram account @merapi_uncover, which shared a photo of the village office this morning (26 May 2026).
At 14:55 WIB, the banners remained displayed at the entrance to the village office. They were of various sizes and included messages such as ‘CORRUPTION: Siphoning Funds with Fake Receipts’, ‘RESIDENTS SUPPORT VILLAGE HEAD CLEANING UP CORRUPT OFFICIALS’, ‘BEWARE, YOU’RE ENTERING A DEN OF CORRUPTORS’, and ‘REMOVE CORRUPT OFFICIALS’, among others.
In addition to the main gate, banners were also placed opposite the village office and at a nearby four-way junction.
A local resident, Taufik, claimed not to know exactly when the banners were erected or who placed them. ‘They were likely put up last night, but I don’t know who did it. Probably local residents of Bangunkerto,’ he told reporters on Tuesday (26 May 2026).
He explained the banners were a protest against the alleged corruption case. According to him, several village officials were implicated.
‘That’s the form of protest, as written on the banners. Rumour has it some officials are implicated. That’s the information,’ he said.
Taufik added that a meeting had recently taken place at the village office regarding the issue. ‘A mediation session was held recently. Representatives from each hamlet were invited, I heard it was related to this matter,’ he said.
Following the viral incident, he hoped the relevant authorities would thoroughly investigate.
Separately, Sleman Regency Inspectorate’s Budi Pramono confirmed the investigation was ongoing when contacted. ‘There is an alleged corruption case involving officials,’ he said in the evening.
He explained that his office was currently conducting checks, gathering documents, and summoning relevant parties for statements. ‘The inspectorate team is currently carrying out the process, collecting documents and summoning parties involved to provide statements,’ he said.
