Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid stated that protecting women in the digital space today is one of the priorities needed to empower women.

According to her, the challenges in the current digital era are no longer just about opening access to women but must be accompanied by strong protection so that women can work safely and optimally.

“If in the past we fought to open access, today’s challenge is to ensure that such access can be utilised safely and productively. When access is wide open, protection for women must be even stronger,” said Meutya Hafid in her statement received and confirmed on Wednesday.

This achievement should have opened up great opportunities for women to participate actively in the economy and public life in the digital realm.

However, the government realises that such opportunities must be accompanied by serious protection.

As a concrete step, one policy that the government has implemented is Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas).

This policy, among other things, limits access for children under 16 years old to high-risk platforms and its implementation continues to be strengthened from 2026.

Discussing women’s empowerment specifically, Meutya revealed that women can be empowered at all levels, including at the strategic decision-making level such as in the government executive environment.

According to her, women’s perspectives are very much needed so that the resulting policies are more inclusive and sensitive to various inequalities.

Equality between the roles of women and men will certainly make a country stronger in facing various challenges, both local and global in nature.

“Women and men are the two wings of the nation. If both move in balance, Indonesia will be able to fly higher in facing global challenges,” she said.
