Sanya — 23 May is observed as World Turtle Day. On the same day, the Sea Turtle Shelter, a conservation and breeding centre for sea turtles at the iconic Atlantis Sanya hotel in Sanya, officially began operations.

Covering an area of 388 square metres, the facility includes rehabilitation pools, a breeding beach, and an educational exhibition hall. The establishment of this centre represents an important advancement in sea turtle conservation efforts, expanding from a previous focus on emergency rescue and rehabilitation to now include species breeding and release programmes.

As a result, a comprehensive full-cycle sea turtle protection system has been established.

Atlantis Sanya has long been committed to sea turtle rescue and marine ecological conservation. Since 2018, the facility has rescued 42 wild sea turtles, including green sea turtles, loggerhead turtles, and hawksbill turtles.

Through professional care, daily maintenance, and adaptation training for return to the wild, 12 rehabilitated sea turtles have been successfully released back into the sea.
