Marking World Forest Day reaffirms the importance of forests as pillars of ecological balance and human sustainability. Forests not only function as the Earth’s lungs, absorbing carbon emissions and protecting biodiversity, but also serve as a source of livelihood for millions of people, including ultra-micro groups across various regions in Indonesia. The Global Forest Resources Assessment 2020 report from the Food and Agriculture Organization notes that the world lost approximately 10 million hectares of forest annually during the 2015–2020 period. This data highlights that forest preservation remains a global challenge requiring collaboration from various stakeholders. In efforts to maintain environmental sustainability, the business world plays a crucial role. PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), through its Green Impact programme as part of Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL), continues to promote tangible contributions to forest preservation. By November 2025, PNM has planted 75,000 trees in various regions of Indonesia and targets an additional 85,000 trees in 2026 as part of ongoing steps to support ecosystem recovery. The Green Impact programme not only focuses on tree planting but also builds public awareness about the importance of environmental protection. These activities involve the community, including PNM customers, thereby providing both ecological and social impacts. PNM’s Corporate Secretary, Dodot Patria Ary, emphasised that maintaining environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility that must be carried out consistently. “From small steps taken together, greater impacts will grow for nature and future generations,” he stated. Through this programme, PNM hopes to continue contributing to preserving forests as a source of life while strengthening collective efforts to create a more sustainable future.
