For this achievement, the Tangerang Regency Government has been awarded a MURI Record in the category of ‘Providing the Most Employment Social Security Protection to Vulnerable Workers within One Year’.

The award presentation took place at the Raden Arya Yudha Negara Ceremony Field today, attended by the Regent of Tangerang Regency, Mochamad Maesyal Rasyid, and the Director of Membership at BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Agung Nugroho. On this occasion, symbolic membership cards will also be handed over to representatives of vulnerable workers as a tangible manifestation of the state’s presence in providing employment social security protection.

This achievement simultaneously drives the Universal Coverage Jamsostek (UCJ) in Tangerang Regency to reach 71% of the total 1.5 million workers, with 1.1 million active participants. Nationally, as of April 2026, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has protected 47.4 million workers out of approximately 129 million in the workforce, with nearly 60% in the informal sector. This situation underscores the importance of the role of local governments in expanding protection through fiscal support, particularly for vulnerable workers who lack the ability to pay contributions independently.

Agung Nugroho stated that this achievement is a significant milestone in promoting comprehensive protection for Indonesian workers.

“This MURI award is not the end goal, but a milestone that the state is present to provide real protection for vulnerable workers. Tangerang Regency has proven that expanding protection can be done massively, quickly, and on target,” said Agung in a written statement on Monday (4/5/2026).

In line with institutional transformation, this achievement reflects the implementation of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s 3C pillar in the Coverage aspect, through massive, inclusive, and sustainable expansion of membership, both in the formal and informal sectors, especially for workers with high vulnerability levels.

“We continue to promote the expansion of protection for workers with a more comprehensive approach, particularly to reach the informal sector that has not been optimally protected so far. Support from local governments through APBD financing is a key factor in accelerating the achievement of Universal Coverage Jamsostek,” said Agung.

In the last three years, Tangerang Regency has shown significant acceleration in expanding protection. The number of protected vulnerable workers increased from 116,000 in 2023 to 200,000 in 2024, and surged to 500,000 in 2025. This trend reflects policy consistency, strengthened governance, and the effectiveness of cross-sectoral synergy.

The programme targets vulnerable worker groups in the informal sector, such as small traders, domestic workers, artisans, labourers, farmers, fishermen, ojek drivers, scavengers, and religious workers. These groups form the backbone of the regional economy but have high vulnerability to socio-economic risks, added Agung.

“Through this programme, participants receive benefits from Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Insurance (JKM), including compensation for heirs as well as ongoing empowerment programmes. Thus, the protection provided not only safeguards workers but also ensures the sustainability of family life and contributes to improving community welfare,” said Agung.

Meanwhile, Mochamad Maesyal Rasyid stated that this achievement is the real result of the local government’s commitment to vulnerable worker groups. He explained that to date, around 500,000 workers from the informal sector, such as fishermen, ojek drivers, drivers, construction labourers, and farmers, have received social security protection with APBD budget support of around Rp 101 billion.

“The Tangerang Regency Government receives appreciation from the Indonesian Record Museum for our commitment to expanding social protection through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. To date, we have protected around 500,000 vulnerable workers. This programme will continue to be enhanced in the future to provide broader protection and alleviate the burden on the community,” said Rasyid.

This success is inseparable from solid cross-agency collaboration, involving Bappeda, BPKAD, the Social Service, the Manpower Service, to village governments. Local government officials work together to improve services to the community, he emphasised.

Rasyid assured that the Tangerang Regency Government will continue to expand the scope of protection.

“We will not stop at 500,000. Our target is to ensure all workers are protected without exception, so that every worker can work safely and live with dignity,” he concluded.
