Protected animals released in East Java

SURABAYA: East Java Natural Resources Conservation Body (BKSDA), in cooperation with non-governmental organization ProFauna Indonesia, released on Wednesday 31 protected animals in Hyang Plateau in Situbondo regency, East Java.

It was the second release this year, after the two organizations released another group of 16 animals in the plateau in April this year, according to Rozik Nursaid, an activist with ProFauna Indonesia. Among the animals released on Wednesday were green peacocks (Pavo Muticus), forest cats (Felis Bengalensis) and the black, long-tailed monkey (Trachypithecus Auratus).

The protected animals were earlier confiscated from various individuals and animal traders in East Java. -- JP
