Prospects for Indonesia's Machine Tool Market and CMES 2026 Exhibition
The prospects for the machine tool market in Indonesia are showing a positive trend in line with the acceleration of the national manufacturing sector. A surge in demand for more modern, efficient, and precise production technology is now a primary driver for global industry players to expand their investment in the country.
This growth momentum will be cemented through the inaugural edition of the CMES Indonesia International Machine Tool Exhibition, scheduled for 3–5 September 2026 at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), Kemayoran. The exhibition is projected to be a strategic meeting point for machine tool, manufacturing, and automation industry players from various countries.
Representative of the CMES Indonesia Organiser, Sun Xiao Li, revealed that the metal processing industry is currently undergoing a significant shift. “The industry is now moving from ordinary casting techniques towards high-precision component manufacturing. This trend is driven by demand from the automotive, electronics, infrastructure, and new energy sectors,” he said.
The government, through Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry, has also set ambitious targets to strengthen the competitiveness of national industry by 2026. Based on projections from research firm Ken Research, the market value of machine tools in Indonesia is estimated to penetrate the figure of US$4 billion. This potential is wide open considering that about 75% of premium equipment in Indonesia is currently still fulfilled through imports.
CMES Indonesia 2026 will occupy an area of more than 15,000 square metres, presenting various cutting-edge innovations. “We want to strengthen the national manufacturing industry ecosystem and support the transformation agenda through the Making Indonesia 4.0 programme,” added Sun Xiao Li.
CMES’s presence in Indonesia follows the success of a similar exhibition in Vietnam in 2025, which recorded more than 30,000 business interactions. As the largest private exhibition organiser in China with more than 23 years of experience, CMES brings high credibility to the Indonesian market. Globally, CMES has managed an exhibition area of 600,000 square metres with visits from more than 600,000 buyers annually.
Through strategic partnerships with the government and industry associations, CMES Indonesia 2026 will also hold high-level forums and an International Buyer Matchmaking Meeting to facilitate technology transfer and long-term business partnerships for downstream industries such as automotive, 3C electronics, and household appliances.
