Jakarta — Indonesia’s Minister of Migrant Worker Protection Mukhtarudin Djuhari has announced that prospective Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) can now apply for People’s Credit Scheme (KUR) financing to cover overseas job placement costs.

“This represents the state’s commitment to supporting our migrant workers in financing their placement process,” said Mukhtarudin during the launch of the KUR Placement PMI programme at the Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection in South Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

Under this scheme, prospective migrant workers can use the funds to cover placement requirements including vocational training, competency certification, work visa processing, travel tickets, and accommodation costs.

Mukhtarudin stated that the scheme offers an alternative to the high-interest loans that prospective migrant workers have traditionally accessed from informal lenders, which charge interest rates as high as 12 per cent. The KUR scheme provides loans at 6 per cent interest.

The Golkar Party politician noted that Indonesian migrant workers make substantial contributions to the national economy and form an important component of development efforts.

Mukhtarudin expressed hope that the programme would serve as a frontline tool for disseminating information about safe migration whilst helping citizens access official placement financing.

“I hope this collaborative spirit becomes a strong foundation for an inclusive, competitive, and equitable people’s economy,” he said.
