Three participants training to become managers or administrators of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative (Kopdes) have reportedly died during basic military training, prompting questions about the nature of the activities that led to the fatalities. The Indonesian Navy’s Marine Corps has outlined the daily routine undertaken by members of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangun Indonesia (SPPI) programme, who are being prepared to manage the cooperatives. According to the Commander of the SPPI Training Battalion for KDKMP and KNMP at the 1st Marine Infantry Brigade in Cilandak, Lieutenant Colonel (Mar) Agus Mutaqim, the participants’ day begins at 4:30 AM Western Indonesia Time. They then perform Subuh prayers, followed by physical exercise and fitness training, before having breakfast. After the morning meal, they take part in a morning roll call and marching drills, after which they enter the classroom for instructional material. Following classroom sessions that last until the afternoon, the participants are then taken through ‘pengasuhan’ activities led by the trainers.
