Prospective Hajj Pilgrims from Jakarta Remain Calm Despite Ongoing War as They Prepare to Depart for the Holy Land
The tense situation in West Asia due to the conflict between the United States (US) and Israel against Iran has yet to subside. Meanwhile, Muslims around the world are flocking to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj pilgrimage.
Prospective Indonesian Hajj pilgrim Eko Widarso Haryono remains convinced that the Hajj pilgrimage will proceed safely and unaffected by the US-Israel-Iran war turmoil. The pilgrim from East Jakarta stated that the war in Iran would not interfere with the Hajj.
“Regarding the war in Iran, I happen to work at the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Defence, so yesterday we received permission from Mr Secretary General (of the Ministry of Defence). When Mr Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence grants permission and issues the letter, it must be based on reports from the defence attaché in those countries,” said Eko to Republika on Tuesday (21/4/2026).
According to Eko, the permission from the Secretary General of the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Defence is backed by intelligence information from the conflict area. Thus, Indonesian Hajj pilgrims are assured of safety.
“So when Mr Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence gives permission, the conditions are certainly ensured, Insha’Allah, it is definitely safe for the journey of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims,” Eko stated.
Previously, other Indonesian Hajj pilgrims expressed no concerns about their travel and the performance of Hajj being disrupted by the war orchestrated by the US and Israel. As is known, the US and Israel attacked Iran, escalating tensions in the Gulf states.
Rifki Hazami (40 years old), a prospective Hajj pilgrim for 2026 from South Jakarta, expressed his belief that Allah SWT will surely protect His servants who wish to go on Hajj. “Alhamdulillah, there are no worries at this time; Hajj is the guest of Allah SWT, Allah SWT will surely protect His servants who wish to go on Hajj,” said Rifki to Republika recently.
