Prosecutors to Read Out Nadiem's 1,597-Page Indictment Today
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Public Prosecutors (JPU) began reading the indictment against the defendant in the alleged corruption case of Chromebook laptop procurement, Nadiem Makarim.
In the trial, the prosecutors presented an indictment document compiled to thousands of pages.
“We need to convey and request approval from Your Honour. Considering that the indictment document is 1,597 pages thick,” said the prosecutor during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Wednesday (13/5/2026).
“We have systematically compiled it from the introduction, trial facts, fact analysis, juridical analysis, and conclusion,” continued the prosecutor.
“Certainly, we request approval from Your Honour and the legal counsel. If we are permitted to read only the points, first regarding the introduction,” said the prosecutor.
“Next, we will directly enter into the juridical analysis, Your Honour,” he added.
Presiding Judge Purwanto S Abdullah approved the request and asked that the hearing be completed before Maghrib prayer time.
“Clearly, the essence is already fully contained. Perhaps the juridical analysis on doctrines and opinions does not need to be read,” he said.
“Therefore, let’s try to finish before Maghrib, considering the defendant also has an evening schedule for actions,” said the judge.
The reading of the indictment then continued after ensuring Nadiem Makarim’s readiness to hear it.
In this case, Nadiem along with three other defendants are said to have caused state financial losses amounting to Rp 2.1 trillion.
Nadiem is accused of enriching himself by Rp 809 billion, which is said to come from Google’s investment in Gojek or PT AKAB.
Meanwhile, defendant Mulyatsyah is said to have received SGD 120,000 and USD 150,000.
Prosecutors stated that Nadiem abused his authority, making Google the sole controller of ICT procurement, including laptops, in Indonesia’s education technology ecosystem.
This is said to have been done by directing the procurement study to one product, namely Chrome-based devices owned by Google.
For this case, Nadiem and the other defendants are charged with violating Article 2 Paragraph (1) and Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended and supplemented by Law No. 20 of 2001 on Amendments to Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) first of the Criminal Code.
