Prosecutors will file an appeal against the six-year prison sentence given to Radiet Adiansyah, also known as Radit, the defendant in the murder of Mataram University (Unram) student Ni Made Vaniradya Puspa Nitra at Pantai Nipah, Pemenang District, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The head of public relations at the NTB High Prosecutor’s Office, Muhammad Harun Al Rasyid, said the appeal would be lodged with the court next week. “Yes, God willing, the public prosecutor will file the appeal next week,” Harun said on Thursday (11/6/2026).

One of the considerations behind the appeal is that the judge’s ruling did not align with the prosecutors’ demands. “The verdict is not yet appropriate. It was purely murder, not assault resulting in death,” he stated.

Previously, a panel of judges at the Mataram District Court chaired by Mukhlaasuddin sentenced Radit to six years in prison. Radit was found guilty of assaulting the victim to death, in accordance with Article 466 paragraph (3) of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP).

“Adjudicating, the court declares the defendant legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the criminal act of assault causing death, as per the second alternative charge of the public prosecutor,” the verdict read.

The judge’s ruling was far lighter than the prosecutors’ demand. Earlier, prosecutors had requested that Radit be sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment. “Sentencing the defendant to 13 years in prison,” Sulviany stated while reading the sentencing demand in the Mataram District Court hearing room on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

Prosecutors made this demand by declaring Radit proven to have murdered his girlfriend, in accordance with Article 458 paragraph (1) of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. “Declaring the defendant Radiet Adiansyah, alias Radit, legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the criminal act of murder, as per the first charge of the public prosecutor,” the demand stated.

The murder case took place on Tuesday (26/8/2025) at Pantai Nipah, Pemenang District, North Lombok, NTB. In this case, Radiet initially claimed that he and Ni Made Vaniradya Puspa Nitra were victims of robbery. However, following a police investigation, Radiet was named as a suspect.

The murder began when Radiet attempted to rape the victim. However, the victim fought back, leading to a struggle between the victim and the perpetrator.
