Prosecutors at the Medan District Attorney’s Office have demanded a seven-year prison sentence for defendant Fahrul Azis Siregar, 30, for breaking into and setting fire to the home of Medan District Court Judge Khamozaro Waruwu, as well as stealing gold jewellery. The demand was presented during a hearing at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, on Wednesday. The prosecutor stated that the defendant’s actions fulfilled the elements of the first and second cumulative charges, specifically violating Article 308 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 125 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, and Article 477 paragraph (1) letter f in conjunction with Article 125 paragraph (1) of the same law. In response to the sentencing demand, the defendant submitted an oral defence, pleading for a lighter sentence. ‘I promise to change for the better, I repent. I still have a young child, Your Honour,’ Fahrul said. The presiding judge subsequently adjourned the session for two weeks to allow for the reading of the verdict. According to the indictment, the defendant entered the victim’s house in the Taman Harapan Indah complex, Medan Sunggal, through an unlocked garage door after confirming the house was empty. He then used a prepared screwdriver to break into the victim’s room and stole gold jewellery. The prosecutor stated that the defendant later sold the stolen gold to several gold shops in the Deli Tua area. One of the largest transactions occurred on 12 November 2025, when the defendant sold two gold bracelets weighing approximately 149.5 grams for IDR 299 million. A forensic laboratory examination of the fire scene indicated the presence of gasoline, suggesting the fire was set deliberately. The victim suffered material losses from both the theft and the subsequent arson.
