Kupang City DPRD member Mokrianus Imanuel Lay has been demanded a six-month prison sentence in a case of neglecting his wife and child. The Hanura Party’s Kupang Branch Executive (DPC) is still awaiting the verdict to carry out an interim replacement (PAW) for its cadre.

“If for Mr Mokris’s (Mokrianus’s nickname) demand, we cannot hold back that process. So if today the prosecutor has already demanded, let the legal process continue until completion; we are waiting for what the results will be,” said the Chairman of the Hanura Kupang City DPC, Erwin Gah, when confirmed via telephone on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

Erwin revealed that his party has already submitted a request for temporary deactivation of Mokris as a DPRD member since he was detained in the Class IIB Kupang Detention Centre. “We have submitted to the Kupang City DPRD institution a request for temporary deactivation because he is detained,” he explained.

So far, Erwin continued, Mokris’s position as a legislator has not undergone an interim replacement (PAW) because they are awaiting the inkracht decision or one with final legal force.

“We cannot yet submit the PAW process,” he added.

Erwin is also still awaiting the party tribunal hearing scheduled for tomorrow. The temporary deactivation measure is being taken while waiting for the party tribunal decision and the court verdict.

“Tomorrow the party tribunal hearing will be held, so we are still waiting for that,” Erwin stressed.

It was previously reported that the prosecutor demanded a six-month prison sentence against Mokris Lay in a hearing at the Kupang District Court on Tuesday. The hearing was chaired by Chief Judge Harlina Rayes along with two other panel members, Olyviarin Rosalinda Taopan and Sisera Semida Naomi Nenohayfeto.

Public Prosecutor (JPU) Syamsul stated that Mokris was legally and convincingly proven to have committed the criminal act of neglecting his wife and two children. Therefore, the defendant is demanded a six-month prison sentence, minus the time already served in detention.

“The defendant is demanded a six-month prison sentence because he was proven to have committed the criminal act of neglecting his wife and child,” said the JPU in his statement on Tuesday.

The JPU emphasised that Mokris Lay’s actions were proven to fulfil the elements as regulated in Article 49 letter a in conjunction with Article 9 paragraph (1) of Law Number 23 of 2024 on the Elimination of Domestic Violence (KDRT), in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 on the Adaptation of the Criminal Code.
