Prosecutors seek 1.5-year prison terms for three who bribed NTB council members
Mataram (ANTARA) - Public prosecutors have demanded prison sentences of 1.5 years each for three defendants accused of bribing more than a dozen members of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Legislative Council (DPRD).
“We demand that the panel of judges sentence defendant Hamdan Kasim to 1.5 years in prison,” said Prosecutor Budi Tridadi Wibawa while reading out the sentencing demand at the Corruption Court at the Mataram District Court on Wednesday.
In addition to the prison term, prosecutors demanded Hamdan Kasim pay a fine of Rp100 million, with a subsidiary penalty of three months’ imprisonment in lieu of payment.
Prosecutors stated that Hamdan was proven guilty of committing active bribery, as outlined in the primary indictment. The indictment refers to Article 605, paragraph (1), letter a, in conjunction with Article 127, paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Penal Adjustments, in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001.
In their considerations, prosecutors assessed that the defendants’ actions did not support efforts to eradicate corruption and tarnished the image of the regional legislative institution. “The defendants’ actions as people’s representatives have damaged the image of the NTB DPRD,” the prosecutor stated.
Meanwhile, mitigating factors included that the defendants had no prior convictions and have family dependents.
The same sentencing demands were also submitted for defendants Indra Jaya Usman and Muhammad Nashib Ikroman. Specifically for Indra Jaya Usman, prosecutors also demanded the payment of replacement funds amounting to Rp400 million, with a subsidiary penalty of six months’ imprisonment in lieu of payment.
The panel of judges, chaired by Dewi Santini, then scheduled the reading of the defence pleas for 8 July 2026. “If it is not ready by Wednesday next week, you are welcome to present it the following week,” said Dewi.
