Prosecutors Reveal Social Media Post That Sparked Jokowi Diploma Polemic
The Public Prosecutor (JPU) has stated that the controversy regarding allegations of a fake diploma belonging to the 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokument), originated from a post featuring a photocopy of the diploma on the social media platform X by Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) member, Dian Sandi Utama.
This was stated by the prosecutor while reading the indictment against Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dokter Tifa, at the East Jakarta District Court on Thursday, 2 July 2026.
In the indictment, the prosecutor stated that on 1 April 2025, Dian Sandi uploaded a photo of Jokowi’s undergraduate diploma via the X account @DianSandiU, referring to the document as an authentic diploma.
“It began on 1 April 2025, when witness Dian Sandi Utama uploaded a photo of Joko Widodo’s undergraduate diploma on his X social media account @DianSandiU,” the prosecutor stated during the trial.
The prosecutor assessed that the post subsequently triggered widespread debate and elicited various responses in the public sphere.
In the indictment, the prosecutor also accused Dokter Tifa of spreading manipulated information regarding the authenticity of Jokowi’s diploma, thereby causing unrest on social media.
Furthermore, the prosecutor noted that Dokter Tifa presented analyses concluding that the diploma was fake during several talk shows, even though those analyses were said to have not used documents obtained directly from Jokowi.
According to the prosecutor, such analysis was conducted without authority as it was not preceded by a process of verification, confirmation, or a request for permission from the document owner.
“There was no effort from the defendant to conduct verification, confirmation, or to request permission from the witness, Jokowi, as the legitimate owner of the document,” said the prosecutor.
The prosecutor also assessed that Dokter Tifa shaped public perception through social media posts by presenting information as if it originated from authentic data.
“That the words spoken by the defendant, by delivering electronic information and/or electronic documents, were presented as if they were authentic data,” the prosecutor added.
In the same indictment, the prosecutor mentioned that the results of the Indonesian National Police’s criminalistic laboratory examination stated that Jokowi’s diploma is identical to 14 comparison diplomas belonging to alumni of Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
Regarding this case, Dokter Tifa is charged with defamation and slander. The prosecutor also accused Dokter Tifa, alongside Roy Suryo, of conveying allegations that Jokowi’s UGM undergraduate diploma is fake and subsequently disseminating these claims through social media.
