Prosecutors Ordered by Judge to Investigate Former Regent and Secretary in Chromebook Corruption Case
Prosecutors have pledged to follow up on an order from the High Court (PT) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) to expand the investigation into a corruption case concerning the procurement of information and communication technology (ICT) devices, specifically Chromebooks, at the Education and Culture Department (Dikbud) of East Lombok in 2022. The PT NTB instructed prosecutors to extend the investigation to former East Lombok Regent Sukiman Azmy and East Lombok Regional Secretary (Sekda) Muhammad Juaini Taofik. The order was issued during the verdict hearing for the Chromebook corruption case on Monday (17/6/2026).
“As it is an order, we must still investigate further. However, since this investigation is not yet underway and there is no decision from the team, it means we will still examine and follow it up,” said the Head of the Intelligence Section at the East Lombok District Prosecutor’s Office, Ugik Ramantyo, when contacted on Monday (22/6/2026). Ugik revealed that the East Lombok Prosecutor’s Office requires time to investigate the case thoroughly. He promised to follow up on every court ruling, whether from the district court or the high court.
“We consider every ruling from the PT and PN. The statements reported by our media colleagues, who heard the verdict’s content regarding further action against the two individuals (Sukiman Azmy and Juaini Taufik) mentioned, will be investigated by us,” Ugik explained. He promised to publicise the matter once a decision has been reached. “Later, when there is a decision, we will certainly convey it. We hope our colleagues will be patient,” Ugik added.
Previously, the names of former East Lombok Regent Sukiman Azmy and East Lombok Regional Secretary Muhammad Juaini Taofik resurfaced in the verdict of the corruption case involving the procurement of ICT devices in the form of Chromebooks at the East Lombok Education and Culture Department in 2022. The PT NTB panel of judges, chaired by Ahmad Yasin with members CH Retno Damayanti and Diah Susilowati, ordered the East Lombok Prosecutor’s Office to develop the investigation into these two individuals. Sukiman Azmy was alleged to have received approximately Rp 1 billion, while Juaini Taofik allegedly received around Rp 500 million.
The order emerged after the appellate court judges concurred with the Mataram Corruption Court, which previously handled the case. The judges assessed that there were strong indications of both individuals’ involvement. “Ordering the public prosecutor to follow up on the facts of this trial by conducting an in-depth investigation and expanding the inquiry into Sukiman Azmy, former Regent of East Lombok, and Muhammad Juaini Taofik, Regional Secretary of East Lombok, in accordance with laws and regulations,” ordered CH Retno Damayanti while reading the considerations in the verdict for defendant As’ad, former Secretary of East Lombok Dikbud, on Wednesday (17/6/2026). According to the panel of judges, the order constitutes a moral and juridical obligation to ensure that law enforcement is carried out comprehensively and without discrimination, “and reaches all parties who should reasonably be held accountable.” Thus, the handling of the case should not stop at the six defendants who have been tried, but must be expanded to uncover all involved parties in order to achieve substantive justice.
