Prosecutor's office destroy drugs

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Belawan Prosecutor's Office destroyed on Thursday hundreds of kilograms of narcotics. The drugs destroyed consisted of 354 kilograms of marijuana, 62.3 kilograms of amphetamines and 141 ecstasy pills.

The chief of the Belawan prosecutor's office, Irwan Nasution, said on Thursday the drugs were evidence in 110 drug cases over the past two years.

The suspects in the cases were sentenced to between two years and eight years in jail, said Irwan. The drugs were destroyed on Thursday in a field near the prosecutor's office. The ceremony was witnessed by high-ranking government officials in Belawan. -- JP
