Prosecutors Examine Role of Former East Lombok Regent and Secretary in Chromebook Corruption Case
Prosecutors are studying the roles of former East Lombok Regent Sukiman Azmy and East Lombok Regional Secretary Juaini Taofik in the corruption case involving the procurement of information and communication technology (ICT) devices, specifically Chromebooks, at the East Lombok Education and Culture Office in 2022. This is being done following instructions from the Judge of the Mataram Corruption Court (Tipikor). “If the judge has conveyed that, we must also study it, including evidence, documents, leads, and witnesses,” said the Head of the Intelligence Section (Kasi Intel) of the East Lombok District Prosecutor’s Office, Ugik Ramantyo, on Thursday (30/4/2026). Sukiman Azmy and Juaini Taofik are said to be involved in the case. Their involvement was directly mentioned by the Panel of Judges of the Mataram Corruption Court in the verdict for the defendant, Director of CV Cerdas Mandiri, Salmukin, and the marketing representative of PT Jepe Press Media Utama, M Jaosi alias Ojik. Ugik revealed that the corruption case has the potential to be developed if there is sufficient evidence. However, the East Lombok District Prosecutor’s Office has not yet received the complete verdict regarding the trial decision. “We are still waiting for the copy,” he said. Previously reported, the judge of the Mataram Tipikor Court ordered the public prosecutor (JPU) to develop the corruption case of procuring ICT devices in the form of Chromebooks at the East Lombok Education and Culture Office in 2022. Former East Lombok Regent Sukiman Azmy and East Lombok Regional Secretary Muhammad Juaini Taofik were mentioned as involved in the case. The involvement of Sukiman Azmy and Juaini Taofik was revealed in the verdict for the defendant Director of CV Cerdas Mandiri, Salmukin, and the marketing representative of PT Jepe Press Media Utama, M Jaosi alias Ojik. “Having considered therefore, the panel of judges is convinced that there is strong indication of the connection of the mentioned parties (Sukiman Azmy and Juaini Taofik) in the series of actions that caused the occurrence of corruption in the aforementioned case,” said ad hoc judge Fadhli Handra when reading the considerations in the verdict for defendant Salmukin, on Wednesday (29/4/2026). Sukiman Azmy and Juaini Taofik are suspected of receiving money flows in the corruption case. In the verdict considerations, Fadhli stated that the panel of judges does not have the authority to designate someone as a defendant. However, for the sake of upholding the law and a sense of justice, the panel of judges deems it necessary to provide affirmation. “Ordering the public prosecutor to follow up on the facts of this trial by conducting in-depth investigation and development of the investigation against former East Lombok Regent Sukiman Azmy and East Lombok Regional Secretary Muhammad Juaini Taofik, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” ordered Fadhli. That order, continued Fadhli, is part of the moral and juridical duty of the panel of judges to ensure that law enforcement is carried out comprehensively without discrimination, and reaches all parties who are reasonably suspected of being responsible. “Thus, the handling of the aforementioned case does not stop at the defendant. Rather, it must be developed to uncover involved parties for the achievement of justice,” explained Fadhli. The involvement of Sukiman Azmy and Juaini Taofik also emerged in the verdict for defendant M Jaosi. M Jaosi’s actions in the case are inseparable from the roles of Sukiman Azmy and Juaini Taofik. “The defendant’s actions are related to the roles of local government officials who hold strategic positions in policy-making,” said Fadhli. Fadhli revealed that Sukiman Azmy and Juaini Taofik have the potential to influence the implementation of policies in local government programmes. Fadhli ordered the JPU to conduct development to uncover the involvement of other responsible parties. “The panel deems it necessary to order the prosecutor to follow up on the facts revealed in the trial. By conducting further examination of witnesses Sukiman Azmy and Muhammad Juaini Taofik to ascertain whether or not there is involvement of these witnesses in the corruption in the aforementioned case,” clarified Fadhli.
