Prosecutors destroyed 14 counterfeit watches on-site during the Asset Recovery Agency (BPA) Fair 2026 on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. The watches, confirmed counterfeit, were cut from their straps with pliers, then the pieces were sealed in clear plastic and hammered into fragments.

Deputy Attorney General for Civil and State Administrative Affairs (Jamdatun), Narendra Jatna, said the counterfeit items actually have economic value. However, he added, the state cannot profit from goods that infringe the law.

‘For counterfeit, there are international standards. The products sold must correspond to the originals. This relates to copyrights, patents, and so on,’ Narendra said.

He noted that the state cannot circulate items that infringe Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) because it would harm the patent and brand owners. The Attorney General’s Office ultimately decided to destroy the goods.

14 Watches Confirmed Fake

Head of the Legal Information Centre (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General’s Office, Anang Supriatna, said the fake status of the 14 watches had gone through a long validation process. He said Jimmy had admitted in court that the items were counterfeit, and this was reflected in indictments and verdicts.

‘The seized items were not identified or counterfeit by the mere action of experts; the process was also acknowledged by the owner in court and reflected in the indictment and ruling,’ Anang clarified.

He said no seized goods were embezzled. All seized items were stored properly.

Anang also noted that the price of the 14 counterfeit watches varied significantly from the genuine products. The authentic watches of these brands can be worth billions of rupiah, whereas the counterfeit items are valued at tens of millions.

‘The price is substantial but far below the original. The original price for a single watch can be in the billions. For these counterfeit pieces, it is around Rp 15 million each,’ he concluded.
